The College Republicans at Marquette University Organization Constitution
Preamble
The College Republicans at Marquette University is a student organization dedicated to educating and mobilizing students around Republican ideals and to become active citizens in the election process through the involvement of the Republican Political Committee, political events, and campaigns.
Article I: Name
The name of this organization shall be College Republicans at Marquette University, hereafter referred to as the Organization.
Article II: Purpose
The purpose of this Organization shall be to educate and mobilize students around Republican ideals and to promote citizen activism in the election[AEH1] process through the involvement of members and the community with the Republican Political Committee, political events, and campaigns.
Article III: Membership
Section 1: Regular membership shall be open to any full time Marquette University undergraduate student.
Section 2: Associate membership shall be open to any part time student, graduate student, professional student, faculty member, staff member, or administrator at Marquette University.
Section 3: Non-discrimination Clause. Consistent with all applicable federal and state laws and University policies, this organization and its subordinate bodies and officers shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, sexual orientation, religion, veteran’s status, sex, national origin, or disability in its selection of members, educational programs, or activities.
Section 4: Dues will be set at a reasonable rate every year by the Executive Committee prior to the State Convention of the Wisconsin College Republicans. Any member attending the convention must pay dues.
Article IV: Elected Officers
Section 1: Officers of the organization shall be as follows and be recognized as the “Executive Committee”

-Vice Chairman
-Secretary
-Treasurer
Section 2: Election of officers
A. Elections shall be held in the Spring of each Academic year at a date voted on by the elected officers. All members must be notified of an election one (1) month prior to the election.
Section 3: Officers shall take office and shall serve for a period of one full academic year.
Section 4: Officers shall not be on academic or university probation at the time of their elections and throughout their terms of office.
Section 5: Duties of Officers
A. The Chairman is responsible for conducting the organization’s business.
B. Checks must be co-signed by the Treasurer and by either the President or Vice-President.
C. The officer responsible for conducting meetings is any elected officer.
Article V: Removal of Elected Officers
Section 1: Officers failing to fulfill the given responsibilities and duties may be removed by the regular members of the organization.
Section 2: The removal of an officer requires a 2/3 vote of a quorum following the notification of the officer in question. Such notification shall be provided in writing no less than seven working days prior to the vote.
Article VI: Replacement of Elected Officers
Section 1: In the case where the presidential office is vacant, the vice-chairman will immediately fill the position.
Section 2: If the Vice-Chairman’s position is found to be vacant, it shall be filled by election immediately after the election date is voted on by the existing elected officers.
Section 3: All other offices should be filled through appointment or election at the discretion of the remaining executive committee.
Article VII: Appointed Officials
Section 1: Elected officers may appoint officials to serve terms of one academic year.
Section 2: Appointed officials must complete an application process to be determined by the elected officers.
Section 3: Job titles and responsibilities will be clearly outlined by the elected officers prior to the appointment of officials.
Section 4: The elected officials have the power, with a simple majority of the quorum, to remove appointed officials from their positions.
Section 5: In the instance of a removal of an appointed official, the elected officers may fill the vacant position through an application process not inconsistent with the original application process.
Article VII: Meetings
Section 1: A regularly scheduled general meeting shall be held at least once per semester. The officers may call additional meetings when the need arises.
Section 2: A quorum shall consist of 30% the regular members.
Section 3: A quorum shall be present in order for any official business to be conducted. Official business shall include elections of officers, setting of dues and any other major decisions affecting the organization.
Section 4: Parliamentary Authority is given by the Robert’s Rules of Order, Newly Revised edition. Parliamentary procedure during meetings is given to the Secretary.
[Article VIII: Committees]
Section 1: The officers of the organization shall have the authority to create any committees, standing or special, that will further the purpose of the organization.
[Article IX: Affiliation]
This organization shall be affiliated with the College Republican Committee of Wisconsin and the College Republican National Committee and shall abide by its constitution and by-laws in all cases where there is not conflict between their constitution and by-laws and this constitution and/or the rules, regulations, or policies of Marquette University. In instances of conflict, this constitution and/or rules, regulations or policies of Marquette University shall take precedence over the constitution or by-laws of the College Republican National Committee.
Article X: Amendments
Section 1: All amendments to this constitution require notice of one week prior to being discussed and voted upon.
Section 2: All amendments require a 2/3 vote of a quorum for adoption.
Section 3: Amendments become effective only after approval by both the Office of Student Development and the Student Senate of the Marquette University Student Government (MUSG).
