Monday, October 12th, 2009

The Wisconsin Federation of College Republicans will be having a fundraiser in Eau Claire, WI this week on Thursday, October 15th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The fundraiser will be held at the home of Meg and Brad Brucker. Our special guest will be state Senator and 3rd Congressional District Candidate, Dan Kapanke. Senator Kapanke has been a leader in our Wisconsin state senate for sometime now and has been a strong supporter of the College Republicans. We plan on working hard on his campaign along with campaigns across the state. We hope that everyone will be able to attend to meet some great Eau Claire people and to support the Wisconsin College Republicans.

September 2009 Feature Chapter

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009
Featured Chapter

The University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire College Republicans have grown in large numbers over the past few years. They have always had a small following of very committed members, but when Tom Burton became chairman as a second semester sophomore, he learned quickly how to recruit. Tom was chairman in Eau Claire for two and a half years and grew the club’s numbers exponentially not just by knowing how to recruit, but by knowing how to maintain a chapter, and be a great friend to all. That great leadership continued under Bobby Hamill the year after Tom graduated. The Eau Claire College Republicans have taken leadership roles in starting other conservative organizations on campuses, such as the Conservative Union, now headed by hard working conservative and dedicated Republican, Katie Geary. The Eau Claire College Republicans always have had a good presence on campus in other student organizations, and more importantly, in the UW- Eau Claire Student Senate. Jacob Kampen, and Junior this year at Eau Claire is a strong leader in Eau Claire’s Student Senate and was received a job heading an important directorship. Magie Brennan, a senior just designed the new logo for the Eau Claire Student Senate. It is clear by now, that students in the Eau Claire College Republicans have diverse talents and come from a wide range of social back rounds, but all manage to use their talents to better the campus community, improve student lives, and work for the conservative cause. Our state chairman, Lora Rae Anderson, attends UW- Eau Claire, something that a few years ago, Eau Claire students wouldn’t think possible when universities such as Madison and Marquette had so much participation. The College Republicans in Eau Claire have grown because of their openness to all kinds of students, they ability to work with people of any political persuasion in other organizations, and their understanding that College Republicans means something different for everyone but provides a crucial and supportive community for the small amount of us who are Republicans and students in such a liberal environment.

WICRs to Start “Alumni and Friends” Association

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

The past few years have called for the Wisconsin Federation of College Republicans to begin an Alumni Association. To include everyone, we have decided to name it “Alumni and Friends.” The innovative thing about our group is that yearly dues and contributions given to the association are split between the state group of College Republicans and a chapter of the members choosing. We are planning an event to kick- off the group. The event will be at Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley in Ashwaubenon, WI, just outside of Green Bay, on Friday, September 25th at 6:30pm. We will first gather in one of their nice private rooms to meet with individuals running for office and state officials, and to inform everyone on how the Alumni and Friends group is going to work. After that, we plan on bowling and socializing for as long as everyone wants to stay!

WICR Internship Program

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

The Wisconsin Federation of College Republicans is teaming up with Republican state leaders in Wisconsin to help start a media based internship program. The program will not be a legislative based internship program but will be based in the sector of new media. Interns will serve throughout the school year, or just for the summer. We should have our first batch of interns chosen by the end of September. Each congressional district in Wisconsin will have one well qualified intern who will be available to help with state wide media projects, gather effective video footage from around the state, and help county parties to maintain their websites, facebooks, twitters, and youtube channels.

The Wisconsin Federation of College Republicans made the choice to form a media based internship so that we could give students an opportunity to work outside of Madison, but still do very affective work for the Republican Party. Wisconsin has needed to increase its presence in the media for years, and this is an area for which the youth have a true affinity. To help create a more tight knit party in Wisconsin, the youth are going to use their ability to utilize technology to connect better with the generation running our state and county parties.

Those of us in college think about updating twitter and facebook on a regular basis, and older generations, for the most part, simply don’t. What we are doing here is giving students an opportunity to get recognized for work they would be doing anyway. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to take advantage of as they will be working with the same community as Madison interns are exposed to AND they will be working closely with individuals in their district, giving their skills even more statewide exposure than a Madison intern would receive. We are confident that this program will help grow opportunities for college students and help the state of Wisconsin as a whole.

Students who wish to apply should send a resume and a letter describing their ideas for the internship and describing why they think they are best qualified to wicrchair@gmail.com.

Ripon College to Host 2009 WICR Convention

Monday, January 19th, 2009

MADISON, WI — The Wisconsin Federation of College Republicans announced the location and time of its 2009 convention. On March 27th and 28th College Republicans from across Wisconsin will gather in Ripon, Wisconsin to elect new leadership and set the direction for all Wisconsin College Republicans.

Over 155 years ago Ripon served as the birthplace of the modern Republican Party and we hope, in 2009, it will once again serve as a place of regeneration for the Republican Party, this time for the youth of our state. As State Chairman Sol Grosskopf explains, “The college students of this state should not be ashamed to call themselves Republicans”.

Over the course of the two-day convention, College Republicans will conduct business and meet College Republican leaders from campuses across Wisconsin. College Republicans will elect next years state officers, pass resolutions, and host a dinner banquet. State Vice Chairman, Lucas Fuller added, “College Republicans will be working hard over the next year to lay the groundwork needed to start rebuilding our party in spring elections and during the 2010 midterms.”

Wisconsin Federation of College Republicans Spend Saturday Campaigning in River Falls

Monday, October 6th, 2008

River Falls, WI - After the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Homecoming parade Saturday morning, Eau Claire College Republicans made the trip to River Falls to team up with the UW-RF College Republican chapter and work for State Representative Kitty Rhoades. “It is important for students to not lose sight of the importance of the these local elections,” says UW-RF College Republican Chair Casie Kelley, a Senior majoring Education. Together, students from the two schools covered the majority of the city of River Falls knocking on doors, getting Rep. Rhoades’ message out, and attempting to get as many yard signs up in the community.

“This was a great opportunity for Republican students from both campuses to get together to assist those who will represent our values in the State Assembly” says UW-EC College Republican Chair Bobby Hamill, a Junior majoring in Political Science. Everything College Republicans can do to represent conservative principles and build knowledge about candidates on campus is crucial.

The events are a part of a statewide effort entitled College Republicans Assisting Assembly Majority, or CRAAM. College Republicans from throughout Wisconsin have been traveling with Stampy city to city and campus to campus to aide Republican candidates in winning their Assembly races. You can track Stampy’s progress at wisconsincrs.org.
